ASSESSMENT OF FOUR CONTROL METHODS AGAINST RICE STEM BORER IN TOLI-TOLI DISTRICT

The assessment of four control strategies against white rice stem borer (Scirpophaga innotata Walker) in District of Toli-Toli Central Sulawesi held in four villages: Lantapan, Tinigi, Lalos, and Ginunggung. The assessment was done from August to September 2009. The study was aim to find out an effective and environmentally friendly in controlling white rice stem borer. Total area covered of the study was 1 ha, where each village consist of 0.25 ha. The assessment was arranged in a randomized block design which was repeated four times. Treatment consists of: (1) the release of egg parasitoid Trichogramma spp. with a dose of 15000 pupae (10 pias / week), (2) the use of five units of 10 Watt fluorescent trap lamps, (3) the use of sex pheromone, a total of five units, (4) farmers practice (control). Rice varieties used were Cisantana varieties, planted with a distance of 20 x 20 cm, fertilized with urea, Ponska (respectively 180 and 200 Kg / ha). Measured parameters include: number of tillers attacked, the overall number of tillers, population of S. innotata.
Result of assessment showed that percentage of rice stem borer incidence was low (deadhearts 0.26-2.25% and whiteheads 12.58-16.42%). Statistical analysis on deadhearts attack showed that there was significantly different among treatments, but there was no significantly different on whiteheads attack. Based on farming system analysis showed that controlling white rice stemborer using sex pheromone was more efficient and more profitablet compared to other treatments.
